Future Health Technologies: Rhone Alps peak

News:

Thursday, February 12, 2009, Jean-Louis GAGNAIRE, Vice-President of the Rhône Alps, delegate to economic development, chaired the first meeting to launch the Cluster Rhone-Alpes Health Technologies.
This public meeting was held at the Maison des Entreprises Villefontaine, before an audience of entrepreneurs and professionals.

With over 250 businesses, 20,000 jobs, 400 health facilities, 17 specialized research centers, public and private, Rhone-Alpes is the leader of the French health technologies.
Sectors "carriers" , diagnosis In vitro medical textiles ...
Region, through its strong specialty, is now well positioned in various growth sectors, including in vitro diagnostics, orthopedics, biomaterials, instrumentalisationchirurgicale, medical textiles, or the act of assisted surgery computer.

Develop dynamic research and innovation
birthplace of Life Sciences, Rhone-Alpes has been in the past, the place of emergence of many technological advances and has become a global benchmark of Innovation Medical. Robotic stereotactic neurosurgery (1989), the navigation system for orthopedic surgery (1995), tele-ultrasound robot (1999), fusion MRI / ultrasound for prostatic intervention (2003), the 3D reconstruction of prostate biopsies (2006 ), for example, are all derived from research centers, laboratories and hospitals in the Rhône-Alpes.
Wishing to further develop this dynamic innovation, the region strongly encourages convergence with other key technologies, sources of progress and advances. Thus, clusters Biopole Lyon, Minalogic Techtera, Plastipolis, Viaméca (see also Lyon Economie.fr ) develop research programs and development at the intersection between micro and nanotechnology, biotechnology, textiles, plastics, precision engineering with ... the ambition of benefiting the local economy.

In 2008, the sector of health technologies grew 10% worldwide, outpacing the pharmaceutical industry which, over the same period rose 6%. Well positioned on the European chessboard, the Rhone-Alpes wishes to initiate, through the process that began Feb. 12, a new dynamic in bringing together all stakeholders in health technology behind a common vision and plan.
The objective is to strengthen the competitiveness of health technologies, facilitating the transfer of innovation to SMEs and improving the economic environment. The stakes in terms of jobs and opportunities for large industrial clusters are key Rhône-Alpes.

The meeting of 12 February must be the first step in a collective reflection culminating, in 2009, creating the 10th cluster supported by the Region Rhone-Alpes.
